The Yuma Varmits picked up a win at The Range, dropping the Montreal Cardinals, 5-3. Rich Luna was the difference-maker. Luna picked up the win for Yuma, going 7 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 1-0. Roberto Vasquez earned his 4th save, after closing out the game.

Willie Villegas had a big 2-run home run for the Varmits in the bottom of the first inning. With Yuma leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from 20-year old right-handed pitcher Gabe Ayala and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Varmits on top, 3-0.

Yuma manager Vinny Aceves said his team played a "no nonsense" game.

Montreal, with the loss, is still a robust 12-3.
