Earthquakes Rally to Win
Lawrence Wood did all he could to help his team prevail. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Asheville Moonshiners from losing the game, 9-8, to the San Francisco Earthquakes in 11 innings at The Still. Wood was 3-5 with 2 home runs. San Francisco reliever Alejandro Anaya was the winner. His record is now 10-4. Steven Shiplack took the loss. With the win, the Earthquakes improved to 71-70.

The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Freddie Carter came to bat in the top of the 11th. Facing Asheville pitcher Steven Shiplack, he hit a 2-2 slider for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting San Francisco on top, 9-8.

"Baseball is such a beautiful game," said Carter. "Anything can happen on any night, and that's why you don't dwell on what happened yesterday. Just look forward and trust you're going to have positive results."
