The Jefferson Indians got a stellar performance from pitcher Eric Spinks, who handcuffed the San Marin offense en route to a 3-1 win at Ballpark of Monterrey HS. Juan Mercado got credit for the win, improving to 2-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. Kyle Smoot notched his 14th save in 14 chances.
Jefferson took a 2-1 lead on Eddie Hammond's 59th hit of the season. The run-scoring single, which Hammond hit in the bottom of the seventh, left San Marin pitcher Tim Craven shaking his head.
"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said San Marin manager Marcus Piscitelli. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
Jefferson now has a 4-game win streak.
