Steward goes 4-for-6, Leads Poly to Win
|
The Riverside Poly beat the Pleasantville Panthers, 17-6, at Apollos Ballpark. The win was largely due to the efforts of designated hitter Brian Steward, who captured player of the game honors. He was 4-6 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 4 times and drove in 5. Chris Howard got the win, improving to 3-5. He worked 5.1 innings, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 3. With the win over Pleasantville, the Poly improved to 27-37.
The Poly got a big at-bat from second baseman Tony Johnson. For the game, Johnson was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. He drove in 7 runs and scored twice. In the bottom of the second, with the bases loaded, he stroked a grand slam home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Riverside a 4-0 lead.
"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Jacob Pitcock said.
