Mustangs Jolt Cardinals with Late Rally

It was a good time at Silvertips Ballpark, where fans came to watch the Kearny High Cardinals and San Marin Mustangs get after it.
The San Marin Mustangs knocked off the Kearny High Cardinals, 5-2, at Silvertips Ballpark. Xavier Marques, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason San Marin won. The center fielder went 3-4 with 3 singles and a walk. San Marin reliever Ben Jones picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Preston Hundley was saddled with the loss.
Ruben Gomez went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and 2 walks for San Marin. The 15-year old left fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring walk off Preston Hundley. It was his 33rd walk of the season.
"If the personal accolades come, so be it," said Marques. "I just want to win ballgames."
The Mustangs now own a record of 30-33.
