Mustangs Beat Visiting Chargers, 5-4
|
The Mustangs had to overcome a good performance from Topeka West pitcher Dusty Boyd to claim a 5-4 win at Visigoths Stadium. Boyd went 6 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Tommy Wilson, the winner, improved to 3-1. He held the Chargers to no earned runs on 4 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 2. Justin Grasso earned the save for Downsview, his 2nd.
Kyle Boyette swatted a grand slam home run for Downsview in the bottom of the eighth. The designated hitter went 2 for 4 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 1 run and batted in 4.
"Glad to get this win," said Boyette. "But we need to keep playing at a high level."
The first-place Mustangs lifted their record to 29-26.
