Cortez Slams 5 Hits for Martinsburg
Monday, September 1st , 2064
It was a sensational day at the plate for Roger Cortez as he led the charge to a nifty 13-7 win over the Beats. The Martinsburg third baseman was pure misery for the Kingston pitching staff. He left them shell-shocked with 5 hits in 5 at-bats in an explosive display of hitting.
"Cortez put the ball into play and he really hit it hard," said Jonathan Weiss, manager for the Beats, after the game. "When you do that, you've got a good chance to do some damage. And that's what happened. I feel like we threw some good pitches, but he just put some good swings on the ball."
Roger Cortez singled in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Antonio Mendoza in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, doubled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and walked in the 8th.
This season, Cortez is swinging the bat at a .352 rate with 148 hits in 421 at-bats. To date he has hit 35 home runs, scored 121 runs and driven in 111.
