Spears Takes Charge, Blanks Niagara Falls, 8-0 Friday, August 10th , 2063 The Niagara Falls Pipe Fitters were almost helpless in their 8-0 loss to the Boston Whitecaps and hurler John Spears. Spears kept the Pipe Fitters confused all game, spinning a 4-hit shutout. "Tip your hat to Spears," Niagara Falls manager Bryant Thomas said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night." The 22-year-old right-hander had 1 walk and 7 strikeouts in a strong performance. "It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Spears said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
