Swallows Need Extras to Top Giants
Despite a fine performance by right fielder Caleb Gant, the Yomiuri Giants suffered a 6-5 loss to the Tokyo Yakult Swallows. Gant went 2-4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Ankur Sulagna, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. The Swallows raised their record to 4-2.

Wasaburo Inoue was 3 for 6 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI for Tokyo Yakult. In a tie game with one out in the top of the tenth, Inoue came through with a 2-run single. It put the Swallows in front, 6-4.

"Our guys just had that look of determination," said winning manager Chris Lannigan.
