The Saitama Seibu Lions met little resistance from the ORIX Buffaloes, beating them 17-3 at Field of the Chariots. Takuzo Moriguchi led the way. He went 2 for 2 with a double and 2 walks. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for Saitama Seibu. The Lions saw their win-loss record go to 17-18. At the same time, the Buffaloes fell to 13-22.

Bill Erickson was a prime factor in the win for the Lions. In the bottom of the third with two out, the 22-year old second baseman hit a run-scoring single. He went 2 for 5 with 2 singles and a walk.

ORIX manager John Woodroffe called the loss "a monumental failure."
