Nigg, Chargers Too Much for Panthers
|
The Topeka West Chargers defeated the Derby Panthers, 11-6, at Managua HS Grounds today. Leading the charge for Topeka West was center fielder Chris Nigg. He was 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 3 times. The win was credited to Baio Zhang in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Victor Romero took the loss. Topeka West goes to 10-17, Derby to 16-11.
Topeka West used the timely hitting of Justin Simms to capture the win. The right fielder socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the second inning to put the Chargers ahead, 3-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was an important one.
Simms told a Topeka West Daily reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
