The Derby Panthers clobbered the Topeka West Chargers, 14-2, at Managua HS Grounds today. Derby first baseman Mel Andrade was named player of the game for his productive day. He was 4 for 4 with a home run, 3 singles, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Alejandro Victorio got the win, improving to 2-0. He held the Chargers to 1 earned run on 3 hits over 5.2 innings, while striking out 8 and walking 1. Derby, at 16-10, sits in third place in the Pete Rose Little League Roger Clemens Division.
Ralph Parsons put Derby in front, 10-1, when he took Baio Zhang downtown. His grand slam home run came with two out in the bottom of the sixth. It was his 4th home run of the season.
"You can't sugarcoat this one," said Topeka West manager Jack Fannon. "We got the snot knocked out of us."
