Voodoos Come Up Short at Kearny High
|
Kearny High Cardinals starter Tim Amerine turned in a sterling performance against the Rutland Voodoos, leading his team to a slim 3-2 win. Kearny High reliever Brendan Smaga was the winner. His record is now 2-0. The losing pitcher was Steven Pritchard. Nick Porter earned the save for Kearny High, his 9th.
The Cardinals got a big at-bat from right fielder Jeff Scott. For the game, Scott was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Kearny High a 3-2 lead.
Rutland manager Doug Taylor said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
The Cardinals saw their win-loss record go to 15-8. At the same time, the Voodoos fell to 17-6.
