Starting pitcher Dan Devaney pitched well enough to help the Kingston Beats beat the Saint John Alpines, 5-3. Kingston pitcher Jeff Weaver got the win, upping his record to 2-1. Luis Palacios got the loss. The save went to Mark Rardin, number 4 for him.

Had Matt Rich not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Rich hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Beats.

"You have to trust that what you're doing is going to produce results," said Devaney.

The defeat makes Saint John 77-48.
