Davis, Voodoos Beat Panthers, 15-5
|
Led by 15-year-old Matt Davis, the Rutland Voodoos downed the Derby Panthers, 15-5. Davis went 3-4 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 and driving in 7 for Rutland. Craig Boike claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 1.1 innings. His record stands at 1-2. The current losing streak for Derby has reached 5 games.
Rutland used the timely hitting of Cris Garcia to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Voodoos on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We're not exactly playing great right now," said Chris Eppler, the Derby manager.
