Mustangs Come Back Late to Clip Lancers
|
Downsview starter Miguel Ponce had a strong outing against the Canby Lancers at Ballpark of Villahermosa HS. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 4-2 win. Downsview reliever Bill Stark picked up the win, bumping his record to 2-0. Marc Wise was collared with the loss. Elijah Caldwell earned the save, his 3rd.
A critical at-bat came in the top of the ninth inning when the Mustangs sent 15-year-old catcher Ross Bear to the plate with the bases loaded. The youngster shook off the pressure and drew a walk, driving in 1 run, to put Downsview on top, 4-2.
"You come to the ballpark to do your job and that's what I did today," Bear told the Downsview Observer.
At 7-4, the Mustangs have played well so far.
