Cardinals Win at Canby, 8-3
|
The Montreal Cardinals topped the Canby Lancers, 8-3, with youngster John Thacker playing a key role. Thacker went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 for the Cardinals in the win. The winner was Montreal reliever Devin Williams, now 1-0. The loser was Mario Gonzales. Losses have been rare for the Lancers, who are now 5-1.
It could have been a different outcome for Montreal, had it not been for Leith Lepine, the 16-year old right fielder . Lepine contributed a run-scoring double in the top of the fifth inning to put Montreal up, 3-1.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Montreal manager Hector Corretjer.
