Indians Beat Mustangs, 6-2
|
San Marin got a terrific performance from pitcher Justin Whitman, but it wasn't enough to beat the Jefferson Indians. Jefferson won the Silvertips Ballpark contest, 6-2. Whitman was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He came in in relief and pitched to 19 batters . Jefferson reliever Dale Spain picked up the win to move to 1-0. Noel Belcher suffered the loss. The save went to Brian Komarek, his 1st this season.
Jefferson shortstop Jonathan Ontiveros contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the second. With two down, he hit a cutter into right field for a bases-clearing double. It was his 3rd double of the season and put the Indians ahead, 5-0.
Ontiveros called the triumph "a good team win."
The Indians, with just their 1st win in 4 games, have played uninspired baseball so far.
