Thoroughbreds Deal Pipers 6-1 Loss
|
The Aiken Thoroughbreds picked up a win at Pipers Grove, dropping the San Carlos Pipers, 6-1. Joe Bean, who is tied for 8th in the TLA with a 3.73 ERA, was the difference-maker. In 8.1 innings, Bean surrendered 10 hits, while striking out 13 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Aiken improves to 76-29 with the win. They lead their division by 33½ games.
Aiken used a clutch at-bat from Roberto Acosta to capture the win. The third baseman hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Thoroughbreds ahead, 6-0. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
Bean said his team "played with focus."
