Arnie Barnard never let the Heat get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Capitals to a 4-1 win. Barnard, the winner, moves to 2-0. He threw 8 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 3 walks. Jerry Gaudet finished to wrap up his 4th save.

The Capitals got a big boost from designated hitter Joe Aastrom who had a 3-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning off Heat hurler Matt Pahomes. It was his 4th home run of the season and put Victoria on top, 3-0.

"I really like what we did out there today," Aastrom said after the game.

Victoria is in second place in the Lester B. Person League West Division with a record of 23-15.
