The inspired effort of Montreal catcher Cole Messier was not enough to prevent a 8-6 loss to the Saskatoon Legends. Messier was 4-4 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs. The winner was Daniel Tiant, who threw 110 pitches over 6.1 innings. The right-hander was charged with 6 runs on 11 hits. Saskatoon now has a 3-game win streak.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Legends had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the top of the first, when third baseman Aaron Purkis hit a grand slam home run. The home run came off Bob Briggs and made the score 4-0, Legends. Purkis went 1 for 5 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once.
"We'll take this win and move on," said Purkis.
