Down to Defeat Goes San Carlos, 8-5
|
Martinsburg played host to San Carlos at Maulers Park.
Sandy Santos left his imprint on the 8-5 Martinsburg win against the San Carlos Pipers. Santos, who is tied for 2nd in the RLA in runs scored with 91, went 2 for 2 with a home run and 3 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Jose Renteria, the winner, goes to 5-2. He allowed 4 runs on 5 hits, with no walks and 5 strikeouts over 6.1 innings.
The Maulers got a big hit from pinch hitter Paul Kirkpatrick. In the bottom of the sixth, Kirkpatrick smacked a grand slam home run off San Carlos pitcher Jim Little. It was his 21st home run of the season. Suddenly, the Maulers were ahead, 6-3.
"Good, gritty kind of win," said Maulers manager Austin Alexander.
The win for the Maulers raised their record to 58-32.
