The Long Beach State 49'ers beat the UCLA Bruins by a score of 5-3. Long Beach State second baseman Brian Day deserved the lion's share of the credit. Day was 2 for 3 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 times for the 49'ers. The win went to Tim Wulff in relief, making him now 2-1. John Tuck took the loss for UCLA. Connor Andreyev earned the save for Long Beach State, his 5th.

Long Beach State used the timely hitting of Ben Nelson to capture the win. The third baseman socked a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the 49'ers ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a big one.

Despite the victory, Nelson was prickly with assembled media after the game. He said only that he was "happy with the win."
