Bulldogs Stun Trojans, 5-4
|
Fans who gathered at Nesquehoning College Fields saw a good contest between the Mississippi State Bulldogs and USC Trojans.
Behind a solid performance from center fielder Justin Piccini, the Mississippi State Bulldogs defeated the USC Trojans, 5-4. Piccini was 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Bulldogs. Mississippi State reliever Jesse Roebuck picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Josh Giordano took the loss. Dakota Underwood closed the door for Mississippi State, picking up his 9th save of the year.
Piccini had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a 2-2 cutter from Josh Giordano, he banged a 3-run home run to right, giving the Bulldogs a 5-2 lead. It was the 7th home run of the year for Piccini.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Mississippi State manager Eddie Cassidy.
With the win, the Bulldogs have a record of 22-20.
