South Carolina and Virginia duked it out at Ballpark of Redwood College and the Gamecocks came out victorious.

The Gamecocks grabbed a win, 6-3, at Ballpark of Redwood College, overcoming a fine effort from Virginia pitcher Matt Stephens. Stephens went 5.1 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Earning his 10th save for South Carolina was Blake Mastromarino.

South Carolina used the timely hitting of Matt Acuff to capture the win. The second baseman socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Gamecocks ahead, 6-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was an important one.

Acuff told the media after that game that the mood in the clubhouse is "extremely positive" after a win like that.

The Gamecocks saw their win-loss record go to 22-19. At the same time, the Cavaliers fell to 23-18.
