The Miami Hurricanes weathered an outstanding game by North Carolina right fielder Ron Gerlt to topple the Tar Heels, 10-9. Gerlt was 1-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times and driving in 4. Ray Bunce earned the save for Miami, his 7th of the year. The win has Miami at 15-25.

Jimmy Reid took North Carolina hurler Ray Thompson deep in the bottom of the third. His 3-run home run put the Hurricanes on top, 6-4. In all, Reid had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.

"Winning is hard sometimes," said Hurricanes manager Jody Farley. "This one was nice to get."
