Thunderbirds Score Late to Beat Cucamonga, 4-3
|
Rancho got a decent performance from pitcher Fernando Baldovinos, but it wasn't enough to beat the Surrey Thunderbirds. Surrey won the Surrey Field contest, 4-3. Baldovinos threw 6.0 innings allowing 3 runs for the losing team. Surrey reliever Jonathan Guerrero was the winner. His record is now 3-0. Albert Colon took the loss. The save went to Salvador Reyes, his 8th this season.
Had David Barreto not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Barreto hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Thunderbirds.
"No time for flexing," said Barreto. "It's always one game at a time."
At 48-21, the Thunderbirds find themselves in second place in the RCL LA West Division.
