The Victoria Cougars used a great performance from Ron Krause, who is tied for 5th in the RLA in quality starts with 6, to beat the San Carlos Pipers, 3-1, at Cougars Park. In 6 innings, Krause surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 0. He allowed 1 run. Joe Pierce earned the save, his 19th.
The Cougars got a big at-bat from designated hitter Juan Gallegos. For the game, Gallegos went 1-3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the first, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 12th home run of the season gave Victoria a 3-0 lead.
"When this team comes together and plays the way we can, we can compete with anyone," said Krause. "I think we're going to keep proving that."
Victoria now owns a record of 43-25.
