The North Carolina Tar Heels topped the South Illinois Salukis by the score of 7-5, with the biggest share of the credit going to center fielder Scott Feldheim. Feldheim was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Tar Heels on the day. North Carolina reliever Scott Pearson picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Chris Hurley took the loss. Matt Rodgers sewed up the save, his 7th.

North Carolina used the timely hitting of Brian Ireland to capture the win. The third baseman socked a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Tar Heels ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.

"There's never a lack of effort in our clubhouse. We're willing to do the little things to get the win," Ireland told the North Carolina Daily.

Their 19-17 record puts the Tar Heels 4th in the Ron Fraser Division.
