Late Rally by Trojans Secures Win
USC withstood an impressive performance by Louisiana-Layfayette center fielder John Allen to defeat the Ragin Cajuns, 8-6, at Field of the Dukes. Allen was 4-5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Justin Derby earned the save, his 8th, for the Trojans. USC has now won 3 in a row.

Had Tom Mallory not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Mallory hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Trojans.

In postgame comments to the USC Times, Mallory said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
