49'ers Shut Out Bulldogs
|
The Mississippi State Bulldogs got a superb performance from pitcher Tony Perkis. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Long Beach State. The 49'ers won the game, 1-0. In spite of the loss, Perkis was named the player of the game. He threw 5 innings of shutout ball. Reliever Max Harrell picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Dale Chenault took the loss. The 49'ers bumped their record to 21-13 with this latest triumph.
Travis Rosen, who is tied for 8th in the RDL with a .434 on-base percentage, chipped in for Long Beach State with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the right fielder had 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 1 RBI.
"We'll savor this win," Rosen told the Long Beach State Chronicle, "then get ready for the next game."
