The Santa Clara Vampyres picked up a win at Santa Clara Stadium, knocking off the San Carlos Pipers, 11-5. Starting pitcher Bob Kavanagh was a big reason why. The last-place Pipers have lost 7 straight games.

In the bottom of the third, Santa Clara center fielder DeMario Alvarez had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and one out, Alvarez stroked a run-scoring single to right. It made the score 4-2, Santa Clara. For the game, he went 2-4 with a triple and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.

"We've got to get out of this funk," said San Carlos manager Chris Santacroce.
