Bruins Lose, 7-3, at Toughkenamon College Fields

Rice right fielder Bryce Johnson made his presence felt in the 7-3 Owls triumph over the UCLA Bruins. Johnson was 3-4 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Jared Abraham was the winner. Over 5 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 1 hit, with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. Dylan Richardson earned the save, his 6th, for the Owls.
A key at-bat in the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning when the Owls sent teenager Sonny Hankinson to the plate against Bruins hurler Mike Jones. With the bases loaded and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a single off a first pitch fastball to score 1.
"You win some, you lose some. I don't get too caught up in all that," said Hankinson.
Rice currently is in 23rd place in the Cliff Gustafson at 11-20.
