TCU center fielder Casey Watkins was sensational. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Fresno State beat the Horned Frogs, 7-6. Watkins was named the player of the game despite the loss. Fresno State reliever Jesse DeWolf picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Manny Rascon was saddled with the loss. Zach Beacom was called on to finish, recording his 9th save.
Fresno State first baseman Cory Malm had a key at-bat for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Facing right-hander Manny Rascon, Malm hit a run-scoring single. It put Fresno State in front, 5-4. For the day, Malm went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"Nothing is scripted in this game," said Malm.
Fresno State has an impressive 21-8 record.
