The Rice Owls defeated the Texas Longhorns, 9-6, at Ballpark of Celebration College. Rice designated hitter Micah Horne had a superb performance. He went 2 for 4 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs. Rice reliever Devon Woolard picked up the win, raising his record to 1-1. Rick Bowden was tagged with the loss. Mark Henning earned the save for Rice.

Anthony Lewis was 2-5 with 2 singles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for Rice. The 19-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the top of the fourth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring walk off Rick Bowden. It was his 22nd walk of the season.

"You can't hate how you win if you win," said Rice skipper Jeff Hulse.

The Owls win now puts them at 13-16.
