The Ohio State Buckeyes got a stellar performance from pitcher Mike Lyon, who handcuffed the South Illinois offense en route to a 5-2 win at Ballpark of Bloomfield College. Lyon went 5 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5. His record improves to 3-1. Ohio State, at 16-12, occupies 4th place in the Ron Fraser Division.

Nate Kubicek had a nice at-bat for the Buckeyes with one out in the bottom of the third. With a runner on 2nd, the third baseman hit a 2-run home run, which would prove important in the Ohio State win.

"Mike is tough when he's hitting his spots," said Ohio State manager Mike van Houten.
