Gamecocks Knock Off Demon Deacans at Cypress Quarters College Grounds

South Carolina got a strong outing from Troy Dougherty as the Gamecocks defeated the Wake Forest Demon Deacans, 5-2, at Cypress Quarters College Grounds. Dougherty got the win, improving to 2-2. He allowed 4 hits and walked 1 over 6 innings. Dougherty allowed no earned runs. With the win over Wake Forest, the Gamecocks improved to 16-12.
South Carolina third baseman Ben Williams had a game-changing at-bat in the top of the seventh. On a fastball from Steven Wheeler, he launched a 3-run home run. It gave South Carolina a 3-1 lead.
"I thought we played a nice game," Williams told the South Carolina Today. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
