The Indiana State Sycamores beat the Wake Forest Demon Deacans, 3-1, at Pit Vipers Ballpark. Indiana State pitcher Kevin Akers earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He threw 6 innings of shutout ball. At 12-15, Indiana State is in 18th place in the Ron Fraser Division.
Indiana State right fielder Joe Maier had a key at-bat for the Sycamores in the bottom of the seventh inning. Facing right-hander Jaiden Kennedy, Maier hit a run-scoring double. It put Indiana State in front, 1-0. For the day, Maier was 1-3 with a double.
"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said Indiana State manager Isei Azuma.
