Getting a good performance from second baseman Paul Richard, the Virginia Cavaliers defeated the Oklahoma Sooners, 12-5. Richard went 2-5 with a home run. He drove in 5 runs and scored once for the Cavaliers. Virginia, at 12-12, occupies 13th place in the Ron Fraser Division.

It could have been a different outcome for Virginia, had it not been for Gary Oswald, the 19-year old third baseman . Oswald contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning to put Virginia up, 7-5.

"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Virginia manager Rémy Coutant.
