Rattlers Capture Close Win
|
The Mojave Rattlers had to overcome a fine effort from Rancho pitcher Ricky Gonzalez to win, 4-3, at Steelers Park. Gonzalez went 7.1 innings and allowed 1 run. Nelson Armas, the winning pitcher, is now 3-2. He went 7.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, while fanning 10 and walking 3. Picking up his 8th save was 17-year old right-handed pitcher Ricky Ortega.
David Salazar came through with a big-time hit for Mojave. The center fielder smacked a grand slam home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 4-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"We ground out the win," said Salazar. "That's all that matters."
With the win, Mojave pushed its record to 20-20.
