Valentine Excels, But Wolverines Win
The Michigan Wolverines besoiled an otherwise fine performance by South Illinois third baseman Scott Valentine by beating the Salukis, 8-6, at Field of the Shield. Valentine was 3-4 with a home run, a triple, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Michigan is in second place in the Ron Fraser Division with a record of 16-8.

Joe Harris came through with a big-time hit for Michigan. The first baseman smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give his team the lead, 7-4. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"Scoring runs is scoring runs," said Michigan skipper Shane Saucier. "It's important to have different ways to do it."
