Walnut Creek Draws First Blood in ABL Championship With 2-0 Win
John Driscoll and the Walnut Creek Warriors opened the ABL Championship in brilliant fashion, traveling to Montreal and shutting out the host Mounties at Mount Royal Grounds, 2-0, to secure an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Driscoll, the Warriors left-hander, threw 5.0 innings of shutout ball.

Walnut Creek used the timely hitting of Matt Schaefer to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Warriors on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"We leaned on our pitching tonight," Driscoll said.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Mount Royal Grounds in Montreal.
