Godinez, Warriors Take Dramatic Game 1 for 1-0 Series Lead
|
The Walnut Creek Warriors started the Divisional Series in dramatic fashion, stealing Game 1 from the Pennsylvania Butterflies in a walk-off in the 10th inning. Walnut Creek took the 2-1 win thanks in large part to a good day from starter David Godinez. The right-hander threw 7.2 innings of 3-hit ball in the win, which gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead to start the best-of-7 series.
Batting in the bottom of the tenth, 19-year old second baseman Elijah McNeil had a real shot to win the game. Pennsylvania pitcher Dakson Rocket was determined not to let it happen. But with one out, McNeil hit a run-scoring single. The Warriors had a walk-off triumph.
"What a buzz," said McNeil after it was over.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Castlerock Field in Walnut Creek.
