Dieter goes 3-for-4 as Jayhawks Squeeze Past Indiana State
|
The Indiana State Sycamores and Kansas Jayhawks provided some drama at Brutes Ballpark.
The Kansas Jayhawks relied on the hitting of left fielder Andy Dieter to stop the Indiana State Sycamores, 12-11. For the game, Dieter was 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3. Kansas reliever Chris Gregoire got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Keith Bailey was tagged with the loss. Matt French earned the save, his 5th, for the Jayhawks.
In the bottom of the fifth, Kansas shortstop David Nielson had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 2nd and no one out, Nielson stroked a run-scoring double to left-center. It made the score 12-5, Kansas. For the game, he went 3-5 with 2 doubles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Dieter, "but we got it done."
Kansas goes to 10-10, Indiana State to 9-11.
