Louisiana-Layfayette third baseman Chris Santiago had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Santiago was 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once, even as South Mississippi beat the Ragin Cajuns, 4-2. Santiago was named the player of the game despite the loss. Eric Gifford got the win, improving to 1-2. He held the Ragin Cajuns to no earned runs on 4 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 3. Matt Huber earned the save for South Mississippi, his 3rd of the year.

Brian Talbert contributed a productive at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With the bases loaded, he hit a 2-run single. It was one at-bat that propelled South Mississippi to the win.

"We made a couple of mistakes," said Louisiana-Layfayette skipper Luis Payret, "and it cost us."

The 'W' lifts South Mississippi's record to 10-7.
