Buckeyes Score Late, Stun Cavaliers, 6-4
|
The Buckeyes had to overcome a fine effort from Virginia pitcher Matt Rodman to grab a narrow 6-4 win at Ballpark of Redwood College. Rodman went 6.1 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. Ohio State reliever Justin Minard picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-0. Heath James was collared with the loss. The Buckeyes go to 9-6, putting them 7th in the Ron Fraser Division.
The Ohio State triumph was a team effort. Not least among the contributors was Nate Kubicek. In the top of the eighth, the Ohio State third baseman hit a run-scoring single. It staked his team to a 4-3 lead.
"Being able to play a game for a living is one thing. Being able to play it well and contribute to a win is even better," Kubicek told the Ohio State Gazette.
