Holmes Goes Off, But Demon Deacans Win
|
The Miami Hurricanes got a superb performance from left fielder Justin Holmes. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Wake Forest. The Demon Deacans won the game, 8-6. In spite of the loss, Holmes was named the player of the game. He belted 3 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored three times. Wake Forest reliever Steven Wheeler picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Robby Dron absorbed the loss. Mike Best finished the game for Wake Forest and earned his 5th save.
Chris Brandwijk contributed to the Wake Forest win with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the designated hitter had 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 2 runs scored, and 2 runs batted in.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Brandwijk.
Wake Forest goes to 10-5, Miami to 8-7.
