The San Carlos Pipers stopped the Aiken Thoroughbreds, 8-4, at Pipers Grove. The Pipers got a big game from Jose Castro, who went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. San Carlos reliever Ruben Olivares, who is tied for 8th in the TLA with a 1.26 WHIP, was credited with the win. His record goes to 2-2. Loan Gérard took the loss for Aiken. San Carlos, now 7-19, is off to a slow start.

Francisco Navarro had a big bases-clearing triple for the Pipers in the bottom of the second inning. With San Carlos leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he got a changeup from Loan Gérard and swatted a triple to right-center. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Pipers ahead, 5-0.

"It's a long season," said Castro. "We'll keep working to improve."
