5-for-6 Day for Vanderlee
|
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-6 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Mike Vanderlee, it came around today.
The 21-year-old first baseman scattered hits all over Nesquehoning College Fields to pace the USC Trojans to a 4-3 victory over the Texas A&M Aggies.
Texas A&M skipper Kirk Hill told reporters in the press room that "Vanderlee deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Vanderlee hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Mike Vanderlee hit a solo-shot off Casey McCully in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, doubled in the 6th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 10th and singled in the 12th.
So far this year Vanderlee is batting .410 with 4 home runs, 9 RBIs and 8 runs scored.
