Strickland Stars in Cyclones Win
The Iowa State Cyclones beat the South Illinois Salukis, 10-9, at Field of the Shield. Iowa State shortstop Joe Strickland earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He went 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and 2 walks. He scored 3 times. Iowa State reliever Jordan Campbell picked up the win to move to 1-0. Brian Fernquist suffered the loss. Josh Erickson sewed up the save, his 1st.

One important at-bat came with a runner on 1st in the top of the eighth inning. Facing South Illinois hurler Brian Fernquist, Mike Nagy, who is rated as the 27th best prospect by BNN, hit a single. The Cyclones went on to win.

"I'm proud of the way we took care of business and got the 'W' today," Strickland told the Iowa State Bulletin. "Whatever it takes."

Iowa State is 20th in the Ron Fraser Division with a record of 4-6.
